Welcome to the cognitive Psychology and Research Methods Blog.
Here you will find links to the AQA spec, useful websites for further reading and most importantly ANY HOMEWORK tasks that are set.
Here is your first simple task that also helps me to check that you can access the blog...What do you find helps you to remember the stuff you need to remember?

I find that if I need to remember something important the best thing I can do is create a very stupid visual image that connects what I need to remember to something that is familiar to me. E.g. I often lose keys so will put keys on a table and imagine the table exploding and smashing windows nearby etc...it works for me (when I remember to do it!)
ReplyDeleteI find that repeating things over and over helps me to remember them, visualizing them and also if i link them to something else that i already know. (alex whitham)

ReplyDeleteThose who follow...try to give an illustrative example.
It depends on what i have to remember on how i remember it. So if it is work/revision i'll go through my notes that i have from previous lessons or i find books that have more information on that subject and form new notes (these are generally in short bullet points). I read through them over and over and this seems to help get the information stuck in my head. Also by doing colourful mind maps this really helps, as i can remember the information by the colour it is linked to. However, if i am trying to remember where i put my phone down i sit in a quiet place and try and go through what i have previously done eg. if i entered the house with it, did i go to that particular place with it and when i remember that i know exactly where to find it.

I find that I have different methods of remembering for different things, with phone numbers I add rhythm and with objects I make up a story containing all of the objects in order of appearance. Revision however I tend to use the repetition method. I remember phone numbers a lot easier than I remember facts so tunes must stick in my brain easier.

If i am revising i tend to use colour que cards (thanks to Mrs Brown for that in physics) as i find the different colours help me more than just reading through my notes. As for if i loose something and need to remember where i put something i back track where i've been where i know i've last had it eg if i lost a bracelet i will go back through where i know i've been wearing it and look there.(Linzi MacDonald)
ReplyDeleteGeneral things like if i need to remember to call someone or something thats happening one say like dentist i'l just cheat and put an alarm on my phone or ask someone to remind me. If its revising i'l always use colours for different topics,or if i need to remember something specific i'l record it and listen over and over usually helps. Chloe
